TruSteel shortage

Hi just had a call from Airliquidehomecare to say that trusteel infusion sets will be in short supply for the rest of the year and will be issued (in priority) to those who are allergic to the autosoft cannula. Having used trusteel for over 8 years thought I’d ask for recommendations.

I initially used autosoft 90 but having had 3 big stomach operations didn’t feel comfortable with the delivery mechanism. Is this reliable on less firm skin?

They also have varisoft as an option. Is this easy to use? Watching the video it looks pretty painful, I’m not keen on having a cannula fitted by a nurse every 6 months so not sure inserting and removing a big needle every couple of days is too appealing. Guess you get used to it.

I don’t use the T Slim @martindt1606 but I’ve used a variety of other pumps and infusion sets, some Teflon, some steel, some angled, some 90 degrees, and every single one I’ve inserted by hand. Is this something you could do?

I watched a video for the Varisoft and it looks very much like a couple of different angled sets I’ve used before (both in the stomach). My stomach isn’t super firm after three children but I was able to insert those angled sets ok. Looking at the Varisoft introducer needle, it doesn’t look as long as one set I used, so hopefully it would be ok for you. The only way to find out is try. Can you get a few different sets sent to you and try them out to see what suits you best? That’s what I do.

Thanks for the reply I’ve asked for samples to try and suspect I’ll probably go Varisoft, it’s been a while since I used the Autosoft but seem to recall (to use a darts phrase) getting the yipps when needing to push the button.

Can you disassemble the Autosoft and insert it manually? One of my pumps had a set which the trainer said ‘had’ to be used with the button but I just took it apart and inserted it normally.
