Keeping CGM warm

Hi everyone,

My CGM keeps cutting out on runs because my arm gets too cold. Does anyone wear a sweatband over it to keep it warm or have other advice? I'm worried the sweatband will make it too hot and make it fall off my arm!

TIA!

Hi @katesypoop, how do you know this is related to your arm getting cold? Is it happening at other times?
Which sensor is it you are using? I wonder if this is a Bluetooth connection issue related to the app?

I have only had my sensor get too cold to transmit when I have been out with bare arms in sub zero winter weather and I suspect the button battery gets too cold. I have never had it happen in spring or summer. I use the reader and scan so I know it is not a connectivity issue and if I place my warm hand over the sensor for a minute or two it warms it up enough to get a reading.

If it is happening to you at this time of year I suspect it is not the cold, but a BT connectivity issue. Why not wear a top with full or half sleeves to keep it warm if it genuinely is the cold or make a little arm band or I think you can buy arm bands for them as oppose to arm straps which are more to keep the sensor in place and protect it. I would be wary of using a sweat band as they are usually designed for wrist not upper arm and may apply too much pressure and cause compression lows or restrict blood flow. It will not get too hot as it can only go as high as body heat.

It literally says sensor too cold on the screen when it’s too cold

Yes, I thought it did too but I wasn't certain enough to state it as a fact and it is a couple of years since it has happened to me and couldn't be sure.

It does the same for too hot also @Anna DUK

Thanks! I've trialled both the Dexcom ONE and G7 but didn't encounter either problem during these times.
Does anyone know the temperature ranges different sensors can be?

Needs to be at least 10c for libre

I cover my Libre 2 with a patch, more to make sure I don’t knock it off, but it would stop the cold getting to it and I’ve never had a cold alarm

I've had this problem lots of time when out walking and birdwatching in winter even with 3 or 4 layers of clothing on but then I'm out for several hours in 0 degrees. I've never had it happen in spring though, but I guess if you're bare-armed and it's windy it probably could go below 10. I haven't found a solution to it yet other than to cup it with my hand for a few minutes to bring it back into the correct temperature range.

Ive had this happen plenty of times out walking, im always hot ( or think I am ) so regularly have bare arns. It happened with libre and dex 6. I cut off the cuff from an old pair ( or odd ) sock and use that as an arm band!I

Thanks everyone! I was hoping it would have stopped happening by May but there's 20mph wind on the Kentish coast at the moment. I just weeded out some odd socks at the weekend @sninge so it's time to get the scissors out
